Pulmocap Plantago
Contains a liquid extract of the leaves of the Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata L.). The extract will form a protective layer on the mucosa of the upper respiratory tract, to relieve symptoms of local irritation and soothe mouth and throat.
Pulmocap Plantago contains an extract of the leaves of the Ribwort Plantain that is included in the corresponding EMEA herbal monograph which ensures sufficient safety and efficacy of the extract based on long-standing-use. The formulation contains no colorants, no parabens or added alcohol.
The mucilage polysaccharides (mainly arabinose and galactose) are not resorbed after oral administration and will form a protective layer over the oropharyngeal mucosa. This protective layer will relieve the symptoms of local irritations and dry cough.
Weak antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activities were demonstrated in-vitro by using different extracts and different parts of the Ribwort Plantain.
Several in-vitro experiments suggest that several components in the Ribwort Plantain leaves extract exhibit anti-inflammatory effects by interfering in the production of anti-inflammatory mediators. In connection, Ribwort Plantain leaf extracts have shown anti-oxidant activity by scavenging free radicals.
Several in-vitro and in-vivo studies show a significant increase of antibody formation and production of angiogenesis factor in human lymphocytes.
