Pulmocap Thymus
Uses beneficial effects of thyme to relieve symptoms of cough associated with cold. The liquid extract of thyme will loosen thick viscous mucus, has antimicrobial activity and soothes all kind of irritations of the upper respiratory tract.
The extract in Pulmocap Thymus is included in the corresponding EMEA herbal monograph which ensures sufficient safety and efficacy of the extract based on long-standing-use. The formulation is sugar free, contains no colorants, no parabens or added alcohol.
Several in-vitro experiments with non-striated muscle tissue indicates that flavonoids and the main components thymol and carvacrol present in the extract show spasmolytic and relaxing activity in a dose dependent manner. This effect is caused by interaction of these components with the α- and β- receptors of the sympathic nervous system.
The essential oil of thyme is highly antibacterial and antifungal, when tested on Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and yeast. The activity is mainly attributed to the compounds thymol and carvacrol of the extract in a dose dependent manner.
Several experiments suggest that thyme may have a helpful effect in the control of inflammatory processes. Thyme oil inhibits the classical complement pathway and also prostaglandin synthesis, mediators of an infection.
The Expectorant effects of thyme preparations have long been recognized empirically .The use is made plausible by pharmacological data, comparative and observational clinical studies.
